Congratulatory Message to 2012 YLA Recipients

Greetings! I am so sorry I couldn’t attend this wonderful event. I’m currently studying at Berry College, and there are scheduling conflicts. However, I would like to send my personal congratulations to all the 2012 YLA recipients! You should all be proud of what you all have accomplished. Being leaders and taking active roles in the community is no easy feat. It takes character and perseverance, in spite of any impediments that may come. And to be able to accomplish this is an accomplishment in and of itself. I pray that each and every single one of you can understand the weight of what you do- and that you all understand that any act to help and strengthen the community is important, no matter how big or small. I hope that you all continue to be leaders and help your community. God bless.

GFI Mindanao Outreach History and its Youth Leaders

by Arjho Turner

History: In 2007, the Galing Foundation, Inc. (GFI) started its outreach in Mindanao with one school and has now grown into four (4) schools with primarily indigent school children.  These schools did not have a physical library or even educational resource materials that could be of help to enhance their learning process and to develop their language skills in English. With the assistance of GFI, the teachers and students are now enjoying the use of educational resource materials sent and are considering to establish their respective school libraries. As reported by the GFI Mindanao local coordinator, GFI’s intervention gave the students the hope and pride to excel in their academics. The annual awards project is just fitting to give due recognition for the different levels of accomplishments in each school; Youth Leadership Award, Best in English Award, and Certificates of Recognition.

The success of the GFI – Youth Leadership Award (YLA) in Atlanta since       2007 has become an inspiration to adopt the same concept or model for the different GFI assisted schools in Mindanao during their respective commencement exercises starting 2009.

II. Goal:

The goal for this project is to support the GFI Mindanao assisted schools during their respective commencement exercises by giving awards to students that have shown exemplary academic accomplishments and appreciation of volunteers to the mission of GFI.

III. Objectives:
1.      To award GFI medals for Best in English in each school grade/level.
2.      To award a GFI trophy and framed certificate for the GFI-Youth Leadership  Awardee in each school level.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
